ITV, don’t they ever learn?

So, news this week that ITV HD is set to launch. You’d think they might have learnt from the ITV Digital fiasco, but no, it seems they just can’t help but be incompetent. Not once, but twice
1) Holding back channels doesn’ t work. Withholding ITV1 from Sky for years did them no favours and now both Sky & Virgin have been hit by the Sky basics dispute. Is anyone really gonna go out and spend 200 quid just because ITV HD is on there? It’s a warped decision from a commercial broadcaster, never mind the 465,000 on Sky HD and 364,200 HD Virgin customers, they seem happy for only a few thousand to receive it.
2) The HD is going to be on a red button. Oh for fucks sake; does anyone who come up with these things actually use these services? People like channel hopping and not pressing a red button and waiting 10 seconds every time. Freesat is hardly overwhelmed with channels at the moment, and it would have made ITV HD far more prominent to just have a proper channel number, but no that would just be too sensible wouldn’t it!
I’m still thinking ‘ITV HD’ is a paradox, its a well known fact that their picture quality, especially on satellite, is noticeably worse than most other major broadcasters.
Meanwhile, quote of the week comes from James Whale, on his move from talksport to bid tv
“People might be surprised to know that years ago I worked as a trainee buyer at Harrods so my career has come full circle“
Yes, you’ve crashed down into the dregs of digital TV and have gone nowhere, congratulations. Although talksport and bid tv do have something in common, they’ve both full of overinflated egos chatting shit. Someone should give him a part in the next Apprentice.
And finally, there’s some free HD porn for you all Virgin customers. Just gotta navigate through their slow cumbersome menus as follows: Home>More On Demand>Late Night 24/7>Late Night Series>HD Bikini Destinations Hawaii. Of course being Virgin, they’ve missed a trick yet again as there’s no other HD available to buy.
