Sheep on demand

Sheep flock

Shock horror, after months of inertia, a week passes since bbc iplayer launches on cable and all of a sudden ITV and Five are interested in joining the Video On Demand party. It always surprised me that ITV hadn’t moved earlier, although their flagging audience figures and poor attempts at VOD through the web perhaps should have made us cynical about their abilities to spot an opportunity. Just a tip ITV, its best not to prominently advertise a service when you haven’t fixed the bugs. Trying it now, it prompts to download Microsoft Silverlight but doesn’t work in Firefox and even in the favoured Internet Explorer, shows play without picture. Hmmmm.

Talking of embarrasment, you can’t get much better than Planet Rock getting an award for digital station of the year, only a matter of weeks after its former owners GCap pledged to close it. Is that a gun I hear going off into the shoe of a Global Exec?

Oh, and James Whale is joining a niche digital station. No, not bid tv, he’s soaring to even greater heights with…………..a radio show on Play Two UK! Who?
